Are all learning materials provided by Miss SY Wang during the lessons?

Yes, all materials will be provided by Miss SY Wang during the lessons. At Miss SY Wang Chinese Distinctions Learning Studio, proprietary lesson materials are specially customized to suit the learning needs of our students, so as to better equip them with the relevant content knowledge for the GCE O Level Examinations. We take pride in our in-house materials, as these have been specially designed to help our students achieve their Distinction Grades and have proven to be effective!

Does Miss SY Wang cover all aspects of
the GCE O Level Examination in the lessons?

All aspects of the GCE O Level Examination will be covered during the lessons conducted by Miss SY Wang. These include Paper 1 (Situation Writing and Essay Writing), Paper 2 (Comprehension and Comprehension), as well as Paper 3 (Oral and Listening Comprehension). Do Higher Chinese students (Integrated Programme) only sit for
the GCE O Level Higher Chinese Examination at Secondary 4 level?

Yes, this is typically so. However, depending on school policies, selected IB students might also have to sit for both the GCE O Level Chinese Examination at Secondary 3 level, as well as the GCE O Level Higher Chinese Examination at Secondary 4 level. As such, it is always good to check with the school of your child beforehand on the criteria to be exempted from the GCE O Level Chinese Examination at Secondary 3 level.

Do Higher Chinese students (O Level Programme) only sit for
the GCE O Level Higher Chinese Examination at Secondary 4 level?

Higher Chinese students (O Level Programme) typically sit for both the GCE O Level Chinese Examination at Secondary 3 level, as well as the GCE O Level Higher Chinese Examination at Secondary 4 level. The National Distinction rate is always higher for students taking the GCE O Level Chinese Examination at Secondary 3 level, as compared with Secondary 4 students taking the GCE O Level Higher Chinese Examination. As such, for Higher Chinese students in the O Level Programme, it is advisable for them to seize the opportunity to score their Distinction Grades at the GCE O Level Chinese Examination at Secondary 3 level, as this will certainly be helpful for the their L1R5.

What are some of the incentives for taking Higher Chinese rather than Chinese Language for students in the O Level Programme?

A student who passes both English and Higher Chinese at the GCE O Level Examination and who qualifies for admission to a Junior College will be given a concession of two points in his application to the Junior College of his/her choice.

Typically, if a student scored a C6 and above, he/she will be exempted from taking Chinese at the Junior College. However, a few Junior Colleges require a minimum B4 grade for exemption. As such, it is always better to check with the school on the criteria for exemption beforehand.

Does Miss SY Wang teach Primary School Higher Chinese tuition and Primary School Chinese tuition?

Miss SY Wang only specialises in Secondary School Higher Chinese Tuition and Chinese Tuition. Upon graduating from NUS with an Honours Degree in Chinese Language and Chinese Studies, she has enrolled at NIE, NTU and received a Postgraduate Diploma for Secondary School Chinese Education. For her Master Degree at NIE, NTU, Miss SY Wang also specialized in Chinese Language at Secondary Level. In MOE, she has also served at Secondary Schools such as RI and MGS. As a Chinese Language Tutor, she continues to specialize in teaching Secondary students. For Primary School students who will like to come under the tutelage of Miss SY Wang, we look forward to seeing you at Secondary School Level!
